NINETY orphans, chosen by the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), Social Services Unit, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, received Raya gift bags from Jerudong International School (JIS) yesterday.
The Raya gift bags comprising various items such as stationeries, cookies, chocolates and drinks were handed out to the children by the Principal of JIS Barnaby Sandow together with the JIS Head of Ugama Hjh Noraidah Hj Tengah.
In addition to these gift bags, the children also received monetary donations by the parents of a number of the JIS Ugama students.
Prior to the distribution of the Hari Raya Gift bags, the afternoon began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a speech from the principal of JIS and a tausyeh performance by JIS Ugama students.
“I am very pleased to be a part of this gift bag distribution ceremony which reminds us that we all need to remember and help those who are less fortunate,” said Sandow.
The principal said that he felt honoured to be involved in the special event at such an important time of the Muslim calendar.
“I am really pleased in the manner that it has been taken on, I would like to say a particular thank you to the parents of the Ugama school for being so generous in all that they have done to step forward and make this event happen,” Sandow added.
The event concluded with Doa Selamat.
